The Honors College provides curious, motivated students the opportunity to become University Honors Scholars.

Inside the classroom, students actively engage with the course topic and even lead discussions.

Outside the classroom, students study abroad, do service learning projects, and apply what they are learning to real world situations. 


 

HONORS CURRICULUM 

 

I. Introduction to Honors

HNR 101 & HNR 102*        OR      HNR 200

Most students begin their Honors journey with HNR 101: Introduction to Honors Learning and HNR 102: Interdisciplinary Research Process. Completion of both HNR 101 and HNR 102 fulfills the Written and Oral Communication requirements from the Foundation of Knowledge program. 

Depending on individual situations and previous college work, some students begin in Honors by completing HNR 200, be sure to speak with an honors advisor for more assistance. 

II. Upper-Level Honors Seminars

Each student will choose one Community Applications* course from HNR 310, 320, 330, or 340.

Each student will choose one Global Citizenship* course from HNR 311, 321, 331, 341, 395, or any 3-credit hour Study Abroad course. 

Each student will choose one Scholarly Approaches* course from HNR 312, 322, 332, or 342. 

Each student will choose one Honors Elective course from 300-level courses listed above or HNR 392, HNR 394, HNR 396, or any 3-credit hour Study Abroad course.

III. Honors Capstone 

Students complete a two semester Honors Capstone project during their last semesters. This is an independent scholarly (research, creative, professional) project where students work with a faculty mentor to complete a topic of their choosing. The capstone project is a culminating, professional experience that allows students to pursue their passion and demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their experience in both Honors and their major. In many cases, capstones or other independent project courses within majors can be combined with the Honors Capstone.

*NOTE

Depending on individual students needs, the Honors Curriculum can count for up to half of the Foundation of Knowledge General Education requirements.

Each honors students has their own unique, individual needs. Particularly students who are coming in with transfer or college credit. Please speak with your honors advisor to discuss your best pathway through honors.
